Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How can I book and manage my appointments?

You can book and manage all your appointments online, via our online portal. You’ll also get a record of all your appointments and billing history.

If you’d rather book your appointment with us directly, you can call us at 905-282-9922 or email us at info@liftphysiotherapy.ca.

What is my physiotherapist's availability?

While our clinic is open Monday to Saturday, each individual physiotherapist's schedule varies.

Please contact us or check out the online portal for your physiotherapists schedule.

Do you reimburse motor vehicle accident payment claims?
Unfortunately, we no longer accept motor vehicle accident claims for payment coordination. If you have recently been in a car accident, our therapists would be happy to assist in your recovery process. However, you will need to coordinate payment and reimbursement with your extended health care provider and motor vehicle insurance company as we no longer process MVA or claims.
How do you bill? Do you take insurance?
For your convenience, we offer direct billing to most extended health care providers.

If you’re not sure whether your health plan covers physiotherapy, get in touch with your insurance provider.

While we do our absolute best to assist all clients with billing, we are not currently set up for coordination of benefits. This means we cannot bill multiple insurance companies for one client.

Physiotherapy is considered a primary health care service. Therefore, you do not need a referral to see one of our team members for an assessment or treatment. However, some insurance companies require a referral to process reimbursements for claims.

Following your session with your physiotherapist, payment will be required in full. To help facilitate contactless payment, you can upload a credit card to your account for automatic processing. If you have extended health care coverage, we will do our absolute best to facilitate payment reimbursed to the plan member. If you are not sure the details of your plan, we recommend you get in contact with your insurance provider.

Please note: We only process claims between 9 am and 5 pm. If your appointment is outside of these hours, you will need to pay out of pocket.
Do you have a 24-hour cancellation policy?
In order to respect our clinicians’ time, we ask that you give us 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment.

We unfortunately cannot accept any last minute cancellations, and you will be billed for the duration of your scheduled appointment should you need to cancel last minute.
What do I need to start physiotherapy?
We will require your basic personal information, including your name, address, phone number, email address, physician details, and any extended health care information that may be required to assist with direct billing.

Since physiotherapy is considered a primary health care service, you do not need a referral to see one of our physiotherapists. However, some insurance companies require a referral to process reimbursements for claims.

What kind of appointment should I book?
All initial appointments are considered assessment appointments.

Similarly, if it’s been longer than six months since your last appointment, you’ll need to book an assessment appointment. Even if you are returning for the same injury, we will need to thoroughly evaluate your current condition. This is a best practice set in place by the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario.
What do LIFT's physiotherapists specialize in?
All of our physiotherapists have been formally trained to treat all areas of the body. This includes the neck, mid-back, lower back, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hands, hips, knees, ankles, and feet. We are also trained to treat postural conditions, such as scoliosis.
Does LIFT have a physiotherapist that specializes in my area of concern?
As mandated by the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario, we are not legally allowed to claim that we specialize in any particular area of physiotherapy.
How many sessions do I need? What should be the frequency of the sessions?
The frequency of your follow-up appointments will depend on your specific situation and will be determined by your physiotherapist during your first appointment.

Once you have been assessed, you’ll receive a rehabilitation program based on your needs and goals. A standard session is our most popular and most recommended service. These sessions last up to a maximum of 40 minutes. A comprehensive session is an in-depth session which will include exercise therapy and will last up to a maximum of 60 minutes. If it has been longer than six months since your last appointment, you’ll need to book an assessment appointment. Even if you are returning for the same injury, we will need to evaluate your current condition thoroughly. This is a best practice set in place by the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario.
What is physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy, also known as physical therapy, is the treatment provided to promote, maintain, rehabilitate, and strengthen physical health and overall well-being through careful examination, diagnosis, and a customized treatment plan which includes education, exercise, and hands on treatments. At LIFT we use an innovative and multimodal approach to physiotherapy, providing more effective and more efficient treatments to our clients. At LIFT, patients get a fully individualised rehab program to target their individual issues while keeping in mind their lifestyle and goals. The goal is to help our patients return to their active life as quickly (and safely) as possible with a key understanding of how to mitigate the risk of future regression.

Key benefits of physiotherapy are:
  • Gain an understanding of how your body is currently functioning and how to optimize your body’s functional capacity
  • Strengthen muscles and joints
  • Improve mobility and flexibility
  • Promote healing of injured tissues
  • Manage and modulate pain perception
  • Enhance quality of life
  • Improve self confidence
What issues can a physiotherapist treat?
Physiotherapists are medical professionals who specialize in treating injuries and conditions that impact movement. Treatment methods include education, manual therapy, therapeutic modalities (Shockwave Therapy, Ultrasound Therapy, Therapeutic Taping, and Electrotherapy), exercise therapy, and custom knee braces. If you’re looking for the best physiotherapy in Mississauga, at LIFT, we use our knowledge in helping patients understand their problems so that they can make the necessary changes in achieving an empowered healthy lifestyle. We have the added feature of an open concept gym so that we can work with patients on their exercise hands-on, rather than through passive modalities on a table.

Issues that our Physiotherapists treat include, but are not limited to:
  • Pelvic floor dysfunction
  • Sports injuries (Hip flexor strains, Groin strains, ACL tears, Mid-back strains, Achilles tendinitis, Shoulder injuries, Hand injuries, Concussions, Ankle sprains, Achilles ruptures, Hyper mobility, Hyperextension injuries etc.)
  • Post-surgical complications (Ankle fractures, ACL reconstruction, Knee replacement, Hip replacements, Arthroscopic surgeries, Shoulder repairs, Osteochondral allografts)
  • Persistent pain (Chronic pain, Acute pain, Nerve pain, Phantom pain, Local pain, Referred pain, Mechanical pain, Chemical pain)
Do you offer personal training?
Great question! We do not offer personal training or exercise sessions. However, with our open concept gym, we provide corrective therapy for posture and form, and guide you in performing movements (ex: we can show you how to properly lift). We also provide custom exercise programs to help you improve and maintain body function.
Can I do exercises on my own?
Definitely. Our number one priority is to maintain your mobility and get you moving as soon as possible. After your initial assessment, you’ll receive a customized program tailored to your unique demands and lifestyle! In order to facilitate quick recovery, we involve you in the process by prescribing safe and effective exercises that you can do in between appointments. With at-home exercise therapy, you’ll be able to improve mobility, decompress and stabilize joints, improve muscle balance, and enhance flexibility, so that your body can recover and pain may naturally subside.
How long before I can get physio after a bone fracture?
Immediately after casting: A therapist can help you understand typical healing timelines and how to navigate the immobilization period to minimize the negative impact immobilization has on the rest of your body as well as the limb that was fractured.

After Cast removal: Immediately after the cast is removed, physiotherapy can commence. This typically includes passive stretching of the joint and specific exercises targeting any deficits that can be safely addressed.
Will physiotherapy help arthritis?
Physiotherapists can help teach proper technique and exercise programming for individuals with chronic arthritis. We know that exercise is the most beneficial form of therapy for arthritis when it comes to managing pain and improving the longevity of the joints in your body. The only issue is that most exercises can be painful, especially if there are dysfunctions in other regions of the body, causing more strain on the joint(s) in question. A physiotherapist can identify and treat these movement dysfunctions to allow an easier progression through the exercise routine.
